This tour in detail

First 4 nights

We stay in the city of Granada, famed for the jewel of the Alhambra Palace and a city small enough to wander around, savouring tapas and exploring its Arab heritage.

Final 3 nights

We transfer to the Lecrín Valley, the ‘Valley of Happiness’ as the Moors named it when they travelled North from the aridness of North Africa.

A rustic farming community of quiet rolling roads winding through citrus groves of oranges and lemons.

Our most
asked questions

Where can I leave a review?

We welcome reviews and feedback as it helps us to get better. We'll send you a feedback survey when you return home to review your experience with VSN. Feel free to leave comments and review us on Google.

How do I pay?

We take payment via Bacs Transfer or via credit or debit cards. You can call the office, email us, or send us a message by WhatsApp, and we'll guide you through the process of deposit and balance payments. Please use your booking number as the payment reference.

How long should my passport be valid to travel to Spain?

Spain is within the Schengen Agreement. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of your stay. Our North American guests may enter Spain for up to 90 days for tourism without a visa.

What is the accommodation like?

We have carefully chosen our hotel partners based on location and their friendly service. The first four nights are spent in the city centre, Barceló Congresos, to facilitate access to rides in Sierra Nevada and stroll around Granada. For the final three nights, we stay at Los Naranjos, a family-run country hotel 30km South of Granada, allowing us easy access to the Lecrín Valley, Los Guájares, and las Alpujarras.

What's included?

  • Full cyclist breakfast.
Your half board stay (dinner, bed, and breakfast) provides a buffet breakfast of Iberian hams, cheeses, cereals, porridge, eggs, and bacon and a variety of freshly baked bread with homemade marmalades and jams, plenty of fruit and pastries with a selection of teas and the ubiquitous quality Spanish coffee to set you up for your cycling day.
  • Three course dinner.
Paella lunch & drinks on Wednesday at the vineyard hotel Señorío de Nevada
  • Secure bike storage.
  • Six day guided rides (7 night package).
  • Three day guided rides (4 night package).
  • Coffee & tostada stops in local cafés.
  • Transfers between hotels on Wednesday.
  • Welcome pack consisting of Premium quality VSN maillot, VSN socks, T-shirt, two bidons, plus a musette of gels & bars.
  • Transfer from Hotel Los Naranjos to Granada on the final morning.

Whats not included?

  • Flights.

  • Lunch (except Wednesday).
  • Drinks (except morning coffee breaks & tostadas during rides).

Optional extras

  • Bike hire.
  • Bike build service, if required, for those bringing their own bikes.
  • Massage with Isa, our experienced sports masseuse.

Optional Activities

What is a single supplement?

The cost of having your own room is more per person than if you're sharing with someone.

Can I travel on my own?

Absolutely. Many of our guests are solo travellers. We share a common passion for riding our bikes in wonderful scenery in good company. New friendships are forged during your stay. We pride ourselves on being friendly and inclusive, and no one is left out or left behind.

Can I tailor make a trip?

We've created itineraries using tried and tested routes, accommodations, and partners. However, as we at VSN are all based here and know the area and conditions so well, we would be delighted to arrange bespoke tours based on your requirements, be they specific training goals or more relaxed itineraries with visits to vineyards and long lunches!

Can I come for training camps?

Definitely. Many World Tour teams come to Sierra Nevada for altitude training with the Pico de Veleta at 3,398m (11,148ft), Europe's highest paved road. We can prepare training camps for you and your club, including access to our gym for strength and conditioning work.

Is this trip the right difficulty for me?

Please review the daily distance and climbing listed on the itinerary. We help you gauge the level and difficulty of the itinerary and terrain. We lead at least three different level groups on each ride, sometimes more, so no one gets left behind. If someone has a bad day or struggles, which can happen, your Ride Leader will organize transport back to the hotel.

How far in advance should I book?

We suggest you book as soon as you have finalised your plans as accommodation can get booked during some of our busier weeks.

Do you have e-bikes?

Yes, we offer the option of renting e-bikes.

Do you book flights?

We're not a full-service travel agency and don't book flights. This allows you to be more flexible with your schedule and allows you to travel more, arrive earlier, or leave later to add on extra days for riding or exploring.

What are the benefits of booking with VSN rather than organising the trip myself?

Here at Velo Sierra Nevada, our routes are regularly tried and tested by us as we live here. We work away in the background doing all the legwork so you can fully enjoy the more exciting parts of your trip. We care for your accommodation, cyclist orientated meals, and luggage transfer between the hotels. We select the coffee stops en route and give you navigation information, routes, and briefings by our Ride Leaders. We have gels, bars, nutrition packs, and mechanics available to ensure you just have to come and ride without worrying about logistics. We take out the less enjoyable parts of planning while you get to immerse yourself in the experience of riding with us.

What do I need to bring?

Your bike helmet and shoes. Be prepared for all weather. SPF is probably required more than rain jackets as we're blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. However, it's always best to check the weather or ask us on the ground about how the weather's looking.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, one of the conditions of booking with us is that you arrange adequate travel insurance to cover any eventuality during your trip, for example, unexpected cancellation, medical expenses, damage or theft of personal items, or hire bike. Ensure your insurance provider covers you for cycling activities you'll be participating in on your trip. These things seldom happen, but it’s essential to have cover just in case.

How fit do I need to be?

We offer a variety of activity grades to help you select the right group level. Always be honest with yourself about your abilities, and always do some training in the run up to your trip. We recommend bike rides similar in duration to those you'll be doing on your trip. If you'd like to have some flexibility, it's always possible to add some rest days during your stay. We specifically designate Wednesday as either an easy ride to our paella lunch or a complete day off the bike to explore Granada, visit the ski resort or to simply enjoy a massage after three days riding.

You'll be surprised at what you can achieve, especially going at your own pace. We are here and happy to advise you on any queries or doubts you might have.

How do I book a trip with VSN?

There are a few different ways you can book with us. You can call us, send us an email, or message us by WhatsApp with your enquiry, and we will be happy to answer any queries.

We require a 20% deposit to start booking the individual elements of your trip, which is payable over the phone by credit or debit card or by Bacs transfer (the full balance is due 60 days prior to your arrival date, so if you book less than 60 days in advance your deposit will be the full tour cost). Our UK telephone number is +44 7977 512229. Our Spanish telephone number is +34 676 161 357.

We confirm availability, book all your accommodation, and then send you final confirmation as soon as everything is confirmed (usually within 24 hours).

Please don’t book any flights or additional travel services until you get your final confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you wish to cancel your holiday, we require an email notification. Our cancellation policy is as follows:
Subject to availability, we will always offer you the opportunity to change booking dates without any administration fees should you not be able to travel on your planned dates, as long as the change or cancellation does not occur within 14 days of your arrival date. New dates may have a different price compared to your original booking.
If you wish to change your holiday within 14 days of your arrival date, it will be treated as a cancellation.
If you wish to change the date of your holiday, the holiday must be rebooked within a 12 month period.
By making your booking, our agreement is a legal contract, and 10% of your total booking price will be non-refundable if you cancel more than 60 days before departure to cover administration and hotel cancellation charges. If you cancel your booking 14 days to 60 days before your arrival, 50% of your total booking price will be non-refundable. If you cancel a booking within 14 days of your arrival, you must pay for the booking in full.
As soon as we have confirmed your booking, we will send you your holiday invoice. The invoice will act as your copy of the booking confirmation. The balance must be received 60 days before your arrival date.

What our
guests are saying

"After many years riding in Mallorca to escape the UK climate, our group wanted to try somewhere different. Sierra Nevada was a revelation! The climbs, the road surface, the lack of traffic, the tapas in Granada were all first class. Heading up towards the highest paved road in Europe, we were overtaken by Team Jumbo Visma on one of their training rides, and the views from the top over to the Rif Mountains in Africa made the climb even more worthwhile. It was an epic week in great company. A big thanks to the guys at VSN for looking after us."

Alan Bowman Didcot UK

"Such an amazing and fun way to explore the beautiful Andalusian countryside in small groups that cater for each individual. I was nervous, as I am a beginner, but our guide Anisa was so knowledgeable and encouraged me all the way. Climbs were sometimes a little challenging for me as I'm not bike fit but we broke it up and it was so worth it once you got there. The views took my breath away and the air is so pure up in the hills. We stayed at an authentic rustic hotel and tasted the local delicacies and home made produce. Nico and Dave joined us on one ride and it was wonderful hearing stories and their knowledge of the area. Their passion for riding here really shines through. I've been on many holidays incorporating exercise of some kind but this topped them all. I've made lifelong friends and will definitely be joining the intermediate tour next time I'm back over. Thank you VSN!"
